This page will focus on the family stories of my parents, William James Brady, Sr. and Gertrude Hunter. William, known as Bill, was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1901 and spent his life in the Chicago area. His Chicago roots stretch back to Andrew McDonough, born in Chicago in 1843. Gertrude Hunter, known as Gertie, was also born in Chicago in 1915, the only native U. S. citizen of her family. Gertie’s parents and brothers all immigrated from Aberdeen, Scotland between 1910 and 1913. The picture is the view from Gertie’s maternal grandparents bedroom in Aberdeen; the photo was taken in 1967 by the author.
